Poem

Lady Adler’s Poisoned Love

A Sonnet

No one notices the infestation,
her disintegration as undescribed
as the slights’ unoffered reparations.

False oaths tauntingly said. Come Megaera,
guard and guide one left alone and crying.
Come, Megaera, lead her from this era
of mercy turned to merciless sighing!

Tracing old invections; act like Hera,
silent and cold, poisoned from her pining.
Smile empty to his endless “last hurrahs.”
Don’t count the endless hours he spends lying!

She wept broken oaths, marriage unthriving.
Wove his lies, bore his cruel instructions
But now she’ll see him just as circumscribed.
